Arthur Bendle. Died 24 March 1917
Arthur Bendel (Bendle on the War Memorial) was born in 1882 in London, the son of Sophia and Nathaniel. By 1911 he was an insurance agent living with his widowed mother in Walworth, South London. We do not know why he came to Wokingham, but his wife lived at 2 St Michael cottages, Wokingham after his death.
He served in the Royal Irish Rifles 1st Battalion. (a regular battalion) and died on 24 March 1917. He had previously served with the London Regiment. He is buried at St Sever Cemetery, Rouen. There were many hospitals based in the city during the war and it is probably in one of these that Arthur died.
