Leslie J Chaston. Died 11 Oct 1918

Leslie was born about 1898, son of Joseph and Emma, he was born in Carbrook, Norfolk. (or maybe his father was) he was one of 6 children. He served firstly in The Royal Berkshire Regiment, then the Somerset Light Infantry, 12th Battalion. In those days every regiment/ corps gave out their own regimental numbers thus a soldier could have had several numbers. Today a serviceman/woman has one unique Army/Navy/ airforce number which changes only if they take a commission. Leslie had at least 2 sisters. Ethel and Nora and the family lived at 5 houses, London Road, Wokingham.
The 12th (West Somerset Yeomanry) Battalion was converted from a yeomanry regiment to infantry in Egypt in January 1917, serving with the 74th Division. They were sent to France in May 1918.
He is buried in Aubers Ridge cemetery and died just before the Armistice on 11th October 1918
after the war his parents address was Elm View, Howard Road, Wokingham.
