Brackley, Charles 1915

Charles Brackley. Died 15 March 1915

Son of James and Elizabeth  Brackley, Charles was born in Wokingham in  about 1881. He had an elder brother, John (James) and  3 younger siblings.
In 1901 his family lived in Forest Road, Wokingham.
Charles joined the Royal Berkshire Regiment and served as a regular soldier long before the First World War. He served in the South African war and became a Sergeant.
The 2nd Battalion were in the Neuve Chapelle area when Charles alongside many other berkshire lads was killed on 15th March 1915. A marvellous report of this action can be read here;
He is remembered on the Le Touret Memorial in the area that commemorates those with no known grave.
