John E Cotterell 29 May 1917

John was son James and Jessie Cotterell, he was one of 7 children and born in 1896. his family lived at 1 Portland Place, Wokingham. His brother James served in the Worcester regiment during the war.
John had been working as an errand boy and joined the Army on 29th June 1913  . He initially joined the Royal Berkshire Regiment in Reading  but transferred to the machine gun corps during the war.
He was a Sergeant by the time he transferred in September 1915 and was in 99 company which was part of the 33rd Division and  was killed in action on 29th May 1917 and is buried at Bois-Carre. Thelus, where the Canadians captured Vimy ridge the previous month.
