Charles D Collyer. Died 20 December 1917
Charles was the only child of Dan and Minnie (Rosina) Collyer. In 1911 Charles had a good job in Reading and was boarding there with the Pritchard family. He was working as an Engine cleaner on the Great Western Railway. This was to have been the beginning of a good career in the railways, an Engine cleaner would be a lad of 16-18 (Charles was 16) who would start an apprenticeship that would lead in turn to jobs as fireman and engine driver.
Charles enlisted into the Army service corps (DM2/151582) and was attached to the 119th siege battery ammunition column.
He died on 20th December 1917 aged 23 and is buried in Bologne Eastern Cemetery. His parents lived at 25 Howard Road, Wokingham.
