Francis Albert Stanley. Died 12 February 1917
Albert was born in 1891 to father Albert and mother Mary in Henley on Thames, Oxfordshire. He was the third born and had five siblings, two brothers and three sisters. By the age of ten, Albert’s family had moved from their roots in Silchester, onto Henley, Hurst and Sindlesham; a typical life of movement and upheaval to find work as a farm labourer. Albert had become a general labourer and later he and his parents lived at North Street, Sindlesham by 1911.
Albert joined the Warwicks 1st Battalion around 1914, having been previously attached to the Hussars. On the outbreak of war, he was soon on his way to France. By 1917 he had been killed on the 12 of February, during the German retreat to the Hindenburg Line in the area of the Somme.
