William Janes 1894 – 10th January 1916
William was the 2nd son of Richard and Elizabeth Janes. He was born in Oxfordshire, but by 1901 the family lived in Wokingham where Richard worked as a farm labourer. They lived at 59 Rose Street. By 1911 William was working as a milkman.
He joined the 2nd battalion Dorsetshire Regiment in Aldershot, possibly before the war as this was a regular battalion. The battalion landed in Mesopotamia in 1914 and William was killed there on 10th January 1916 shortly before the battalion captured the town of Kut on 29th April 1916.
