Wilfred Bingham. Died 27 July 1916

Wilfred was one of 9 siblings born to George and Emily (nee Spencer) Bingham. He was born in 1879 in Winchester.
In 1914 he was a married man with 2 children and lived at 41 Pinewood Avenue, Crowthorne, he worked as  horse harness maker and sadler and as such he was enlisted early in the war to the Royal Engineers to serve as a sadler. He seems to have served in the Army previously in the Royal Field Artillery and on Christmas Eve 1914 he was at  the RE depot in Chatham.
He embarked for France in May 1915 where he received wounds in the right knee (August) and foot (December) and was promoted to 2nd corporal on October 1st 1915.
He was transferred to the RE depot in Newark in December 1915, perhaps because of his injuries and sadly he died there on 27th July1916. He was 37. He was buried in St Sebastian’s Chuchyard , Wokingham presumably because his wife Lottie and children still lived in Wokingham, though they moved to Basingstoke after the war.
His wife lived until 1956 and their son (Wilfred James Spencer) until 1985. Their daughter died in 1918 aged 5.
