William Welsh. Died 5 August 1916.
The name William Welsh appears on the Wokingham War Memorial, but we have been unable to identify his death on either CWGC or Soldiers Died. There are many W Welsh’s on these databases, but none we can definitely connect to William of Binfield. He was brought up from an early age by his Grandparents, the Potters, which must be his mother’s maiden name. We also know his father was William Welsh as the name appears on the card index file for the marriage to Kate Collier in 1909. Both the Potter names and the Colliers appear on the War Memorial too, but as yet are unaware of any connection.
Any date placed on the page that are not supported by citations are therefore approximates only. His death date is an approximate as is his father’s birth date. They are placed on the page in order to utilise Ancestry’s roaming search devices.
Binfield School’s memorial is attached with the name of William Welsh to confirm the name spelling, as there was a chance of the name belonging to a William Welch who is a prominent death in Wokingham, but not listed on Wokingham’s memorial. If you have any information on William Welsh of Binfield’s circumstances, please let me know. Many thanks.
